This course introduces the economic principles underlying financial decisions and the operation of financial markets. It covers the time value of money, the relationship between risk and return, valuation of bonds and stocks, portfolio diversification, basic derivative instruments, and the roles of financial institutions. The course also introduces behavioral influences, ethics, and contemporary issues in finance. Emphasis is placed on intuitive understanding, practical applications, and basic numerical exercises rather than econometric modelling.
