The course covers the study of production and management of staple crops (Rice and Corn) in relation to food security in response to the increasing world population. The focus is on the discussion of the new applications and techniques to the cultivation of staples crops. Specifically, it will discuss on the importance of growing staples; types and ecological adaptation; selection of crops with higher yield potential; land preparation; planting; crop care and management on weeds, water, nutrient, pest, and diseases; harvesting; postharvest handling and storage. The course includes field activities like growing the crops and farm visit of established farms.
