The course offers the students an understanding of the basics of biotechnology and its techniques as applied to agriculture including genetic engineering techniques and molecular biology principles. It covers the application of biotechnology in areas like pest control, crop breeding, and the production of genetically modified organisms (GMO). The issues and controversies, laws and regulations, and the ethical considerations and environmental impact of using biotechnology in agriculture will also be covered in this course. The attainment of SDG 2 of ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture can also be dealt with in this course.
