The course deals with the familiarization of characteristics and classification of plant pathogenic fungi, diagnosis and control of common fungal diseases of crop plants. The students are expected to understand the principles of plant mycology; learn how plant pathogenic fungi suppress plant yield, destroy product quality and lose aesthetic value; practice the different techniques for fungal studies; identify common plant pathogenic fungi and pseudo-fungi attacking economic crops in the Philippines; classify different species of fungi and pseudo-fungi according to their hierarchal group of classification; and practice techniques in the  formulation of sustainable  management approach of plant diseases caused by plant pathogenic fungi. This course intends to integrate the impact of fungi on plant health in sustainable  crop production system that will ensure attainment of food security while ensuring efficient resource utilization and environment protection thereby contribute  directly and indirectly in the attainment of SDG 2 zero hunger, 12 – responsible consumption and production, and 15-life on land.
