Introduces the fundamental concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics, including scarcity, economic systems, demand and supply, elasticity, production and costs, market structures, national income, inflation, unemployment, and contemporary economic issues. The course develops students’ ability to apply economic principles in analyzing decisions affecting individuals, firms, government, and mineral-resource development.
The course introduces the students to the fundamentals of chemistry applied to different geological processes. Included are topics on the origin, distribution and geochemical behavior of elements, the chemical evolution of the earth, geochemistry of natural waters, isotope geochemistry, crystal chemistry, trace element geochemistry and organic geochemistry. Also included are studies on chemical thermodynamics, phase rule chemistry, equilibrium reactions and reactions kinetics as applied to geology.
