This course introduces the fundamental concepts and principles of biology, including the characteristics of life; the chemical basis of living systems; cell structure and function; biological membranes; energy and metabolism; reproduction and heredity; DNA; evolution and natural selection; plant and animal organization; and ecosystem processes. It emphasizes scientific reasoning, interpretation of biological information and data, and connections between biology, mathematics, other disciplines, and everyday life.
